Campus Operations & Risk Management (Campus Security) is preparing to welcome Blackbird Security as the new contracted guard services provider for UBC Okanagan, effective May 1, 2026 following a competitive procurement process. Blackbird Security was selected based on its strong alignment with UBC’s core values, its experience delivering security services across post-secondary institutions in British Columbia, and its demonstrated commitment to fostering a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Blackbird Security’s strong focus on safety and security is supported by its commitment to performance standards and excellence, reflected in proactive measures that enhance incident response, staff training, and service delivery. With a local leadership team and a UBC-tailored approach, they are well positioned to meet the diverse needs of the UBC Okanagan community.
Although the company that administers the security contract has changed, you will see many of the same staff on campus. Over the coming weeks, Campus Security will oversee an onboarding process to ensure new personnel are fully oriented to campus and community expectations. As we welcome Blackbird Security, we also extend our sincere appreciation to Paladin Security for their service and partnership over the past five years as we look ahead.
