Transition to Vadium Security

Starting on June 19, Vadium Security assumed guard services at UBC Okanagan under a one-year interim agreement. This change occurred after UBC Okanagan exercised its contractual rights to terminate the guard services agreement with Blackbird Security after a review of service delivery.

Vadium has a proven track record of supporting UBC Okanagan with high-profile events, including Convocation ceremonies and Students’ Union events. They consistently demonstrate professionalism, customer service, responsiveness, and the ability to operate effectively in a post-secondary environment. In addition, Vadium’s leadership team brings direct experience supporting security operations at UBC Okanagan under a previous security vendor, providing valuable institutional knowledge and reducing transition risk during this interim period.

To further support service continuity and preserve local institutional knowledge, many of the security personnel who had been providing services under Blackbird Security, including guards with prior experience supporting security operations at UBC Okanagan, have transitioned to Vadium. This approach supports continued delivery of services with minimal disruption to the campus community.

The one-year term with Vadium gives Campus Security time to complete a comprehensive procurement process. Campus Security intends to issue a new competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) in early 2027 to establish a longer-term guard services contract that supports the needs of the campus community.
